Upcoming Dance Audition and Interview Dates

Dance Audition and Visit Day Application

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance accepts dance audition applications on a rolling basis. The application includes an invitation to visit, take classes, and immerse yourself in our program. Dance Majors at Wayne State University get the opportunity to study with distinguished faculty in research, scholarship, teaching, choreography, technology, and performance, all in the heart of America's most innovative city – Detroit!

The audition application form is reviewed by the Dance Faculty, allowing them to get to know you, your interests, and dancing. Each year, we award Talent Scholarships, Allesee Scholarships, and Endowed Scholarships!

While virtually meeting you is exciting, we suggest visiting the department to meet the faculty and students and feel the energy of Wayne State Theatre and Dance. It is highly recommended that applicants are accepted to the University prior to visiting campus.

Dancer for African Dance Company, To Sangana

Why I'm a Warrior

"When I was looking for colleges to attend to going into my senior year, I didn't think dance was an option for me when deciding what to pursue in higher education. When I met Meg Paul and the Wayne State dance faculty at Oakland Dance Festival, I had a feeling that I had potentially found a place for me. On my audition day, I knew very soon after leaving that afternoon that Wayne State and particularly the dance department was where I wanted to be. I fell in love with the campus and the amount of versatility that the dance department provided in the curriculum. Since my first day, that is still true. I have grown so much as a creator and a performer through choreography classes, our Pilates program, and performing pieces by amazing faculty and guest artists. I'm surrounded by inspiring artists all over the Wayne State campus that push me to grow in ways I never imagined when I was graduating from high school. I can't wait to see what the next two years hold for me at the dance department at Wayne State University."
