WSU theatre alum Jeffrey Tambor wins Golden Globe...
Wayne State University proudly congratulates its Hilberry Theatre alumnus, Jeffrey Tambor, on having been named Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy TV Series, January 11, at the 2015 Golden Globe Awards. Tambor received the recognition for his performance in the role of Maura Pfefferman in the Amazon original series Transparent.
"We are thrilled that our Hilberry alumnus, Jeffry Tambor, was recognized for his sensitive and thoughtful performance in Transparent," said Dean Matthew Seeger of Wayne State University's College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts. "Mr. Tambor has brought incredible range to this performance, reflecting the acting skills we seek to nurture in the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance."
By interesting and fitting coincidence, Tambor was presented his Golden Globe award by fellow former Wayne State University theatre student, Lily Tomlin. "Here we are, 2015, about to announce the best actor in a comedy or musical," said Tomlin, going on to joke, "Finally we can put at rest that negative stereotype that men just aren't funny."
Tambor dedicated his award, and his TV series performance, to the transgender community, thanking the community for its courage and inspiration.
Born and raised in San Francisco, Tambor earned a bachelor of arts degree in acting at San Francisco State University before being accepted to Wayne State's nationally renowned Hilberry Theatre graduate program in Detroit where he earned a master of fine arts degree. In addition to his work on stage, his credits in TV and movies stretch back to the late '70s. He is widely known for his Emmy Award-nominated work in both Arrested Development and The Larry Sanders Show.
