Out of the Box dance performance satisfies

The Wayne State University Dance Company traveled to Paramaribo, the capital city of the Republic of Suriname, South America, to participate in a dance exchange program titled Out of the Box: Detroit-Paramaribo Dance Alliance. WSU Dance Company members and dancers from a Surinamese ballet company participated in master classes and workshops and taught each other choreography. The program culminated in two public performances at Paramaribo's Theater Thalia on August 10 and 11, during which 18 dances were performed, some by the Surinamese company, some by Wayne State's company, and closing with a piece performed by both ensembles together. "This performance is an expression of different dance forms," said WSU Senior Lecturer, Linda Simmons. "Coming to Suriname is what this alliance was about, an opportunity to learn other forms of dance here." WSU dancers were in Paramaribo for ten days. On August 12 they traveled to Moengo, Suriname, for another dance exchange program.
