WSU dancers perform at Kennedy Center as part of National College Dance Festival
Hissy Fits goes "national"!
Dancers from the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance performed at the Kennedy Center
in Washington, DC on June 5th at the 2014 National College Dance Festival.
Their performance of "Hissy Fits" represent the East Central Region of the American College Dance Association.
Wayne State dancers learned "Hissy Fits", choreographed by notable New York City choreographer and Complexions Contemporary Ballet co-founder/co-director Dwight Rhoden, during his residency at WSU in Fall 2013. This cast had the great opportunity to perform alongside Complexions Contemporary Ballet at their Gala Performance at New York City's Joyce Theater in November 2013 and again in March 2014 at the Northeast Central regional American College Dance Festival (ACDFA) in Athens, Ohio, where it was chosen for the National Festival in DC.
The National College Dance Festival ran from June 4-7, 2014 and included performances June 5-7 in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The ACDFA website explains the goal of the National Festival is to "highlight, on the national level, the outstanding quality of choreography and performance that is being created on college and university campuses." Approximately 30 schools are represented during the three days of performance, and some classes are offered for participants. It will be great opportunity for Wayne State to share the talent and skill of the dance program on a National forum.
