4ward, Senior Capstone Showcase
7:30pm, April 21, 2014
Maggie Allesee Dance Theatre
4841 Cass Ave, Room 3317
The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University is pleased to announce 4ward, a choreographic showcase of student dance works presented by the graduating BFA Dance Majors. There will be one chance to see this production on Monday, April 21st at 7:30 PM. The performance is held in the Allesee Dance Theatre, room 3317 on the third floor of Old Main, 4841 Cass Avenue in Midtown Detroit.
Each year, the senior capstone showcase features compelling dance works created by the graduating class - an exhibition of choreographic craft honed over their four years of training at Wayne State. Chris Braz presents a dance-on-film project inspired by Frigyes Karinthy's Chain-Links Theory. Braz investigates the simple ability to sense another being's physical presence, using dance as a means to amplify the kinetic energy of the living matter that connects us all in this "small-intimate" world. In a dance piece entitled Halcyon, Michelle Brock probes the perplexity of relationships with a dynamic range of spatial patterns and full-bodied sequences. Her work portrays an ongoing physical struggle between the dancers. Amber Golden's work explores the various ideologies of feminism and questions the corrupted standards that the mainstream media places on women and their bodies. The dance work by James Vessell encompasses a dramatic relationship between two individuals, confronting the complexity of personality, individuality, and community. This final work will be performed in a separate show, which will be announced later.
General Admission tickets are $5, available at the Hilberry Theatre Box Office at 4743 Cass Avenue at Hancock Street, and online at www.wsushows.com. The box office is open Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00-6:00 p.m. and opens 30 minutes prior to performances. Seating is limited and advanced purchase is recommended.
