"ChrisMastersDance prepares for Triskelion Arts' Split Bill Series"
by Trina Mannino

NYC-based ChrisMastersDance premieres its newest production, Evergreen, December 13 and 15 at Triskelion Arts' Zoo Theater in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Evergreen is danced to new music composed by Wayne State Professor Jon Anderson. Company director and Evergreen choreographer, Christopher Masters, is a 2004 alumnus of Wayne State dance. The Dance Enthusiast visited an early December rehearsal at New York Live Arts, where Masters had his laptop arranged so Anderson could view from Detroit via web cam. "I've never done this before," said Masters. "Jon is literally writing music in Detroit while my company and I are creating the dance in New York. It's the next best thing to having him physically in the rehearsal room." "I like to be here for rehearsals because I see things more than I hear them," said Anderson. "It's important to observe the nuances of the movement. I then can jot down rhythms that I see unfold in the dancers' bodies instantly." Wayne State dance alumni performing in Evergreen include Jordan Holland '12, Bryan Strimpel '11 and Kate Vincek '11. The Dance Enthusiast is a digital news site and arts service serving the NYC dance community.
