Two WSU student dances selected for ACDFA 2011 Gala Showcase Concert

Congratulations to seniors Aaron Smith ('11) and Bryan Strimpel ('11), whose works, "Deterior" and "Cause a Frenzy" respectively, were selected as two of the most outstanding dances in the region at this year's American College Dance Festival in Akron, OH. The dances will be performed on the ACDFA 2011 East Central Regional Gala Showcase concert Saturday, March 19th at the University of Akron's E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall. The Maggie Allesee Department of Dance has now received thirteen regional and national gala honors from the American College Dance Festival since 2000. Founded in 1979, ACDFA is the foremost adjudicating organization in collegiate dance. The yearly regional and biennial national festivals are seen as the culmination of the most exemplary dance in higher education over the past year.

Dancers across the country must first develop, choreograph, and present an outstanding work at their home university. Most dance departments hold competitive auditions for student work to be presented at one of ACDFA's ten regional festivals in the United States.

The two dances choreographed by Smith and Strimpel were chosen by WSU dance faculty for performance and adjudication at the ACDFA East Central Region Festival in March. Over 40 dances choreographed by students, faculty, and guest artists were adjudicated by three nationally recognized choreographers. Only 12 of these dances were selected for this region's Gala Showcase Concert.
