Pippin is "enjoyable and impressive" - New Monitor, 4/22

New Monitor (Detroit)
"Bonstelle's 'Pippin' is impressive achievement"
by Robert Delaney
Theatre reviewer Robert Delaney says of the musical currently running at the Wayne State University Bonstelle Theatre, "This is a great-looking production of the highly technical modern sort. I don't think the Fox, the Bonstelle's neighbor down the street, could have done much better in the way of technical razzmatazz." He praises asst. professor of theatre Michael J. Barnes' direction, "Barnes has brought his considerable experience to bear in guiding this undergraduate cast and technical crew in crafting a production of which they can all be proud." Music and lyrics for "Pippin" were created by Stephen Schwartz ("Wicked" "Godspell") who was Wayne State's recipient of, and on-campus guest-lecturer for, the Sarah Applebaum Nederlander Award for Excellence in Theatre, WSU's famed "Apple Award," in 2006. "Pippin" continues through April 25, with performances at 8pm Friday and Saturday and 2pm Sunday, at the Bonstelle Theatre, 3424 Woodward Ave., theatre.wayne.edu, 313-577-2960.
