Theater review: Lively "Marriage," a match made at the Hilberry

A review of the Hilberry Theatre's production of "Marriage" notes the standout performance of actress Sarah Hawkins Moan, who plays Russian matchmaker Fiokla. The drama of this season's "The Bachelor" on ABC has nothing on the antics of "Marriage," according to the review. "Marriage" is playing in repertory now through April 6.

Russian comedy about "Marriage" at WSU's Hilberry Theatre

The comedy "Marriage" by Nikolai Gogol is the fifth production in the 50th season of the Hilberry Theatre at Wayne State University. This new take on a classic comedy emphasizes the ridiculousness of these characters and their interactions by utilizing larger-than-life props, an unconventional scenic design, Las Vegas-style kick lines, and cross-gendered casting that would make Shakespeare proud. It will be running in rotating repertory through Saturday, April 6, with the dark comedy "Detroit" by Lisa D'Amour and the comedic Shakespearean reimagining "Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)" by Ann-Marie MacDonald.
