"The Hilberry gets physical with Big Love"
by Samantha White

Wayne State's Hilberry Theatre has showcased an eclectic mix thus far from its season opener, Shakespeare's Macbeth, to Big Love now playing through Dec. 7 - not to be confused with the HBO series about polygamists. This is the most physical show the Hilberry has produced in a long time. The fearless cast deserve kudos for their agility and toughness as they throw themselves around, beat the ground with their fists, flip, fall and speak at the top of their vocal registers with remarkable courage and vigor. "Love" is playing now through Dec. 7 at the Hilberry.

Hilberry Theatre's 'Big Love' revels in the timeless battle of the sexes
by John Monaghan

Not to be confused with the HBO series about a family of polygamists, "Big Love" is a 2000 play by Charles L. Mee about three sisters who seek refugee status after they abandon arranged marriages in Greece. The current production at Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre offers plenty to chew on in terms of gender politics. Ultimately, "Big Love" succeeds because director Blair Anderson and his actors approach the themes of the show with such conviction.

WSU Hilberry Theatre opens Charles Mee's "Big Love" tonight

Charles L. Mee's dark comedy "Big Love" brings the classic battle of the sexes to the Hilberry Theatre. Playing tonight through Dec. 7, this theatrical production is a meditation on love and an exploration of gender archetypes told through the viewpoint of a trio of soon-to-be brides as they quarrel with their three suitors. "The 21st century is a more ambiguous time where both women and men struggle with the search for 'Love,'" said Director Blair Anderson. "Audiences can expect to see young men and women in search of their own individual 'big loves' - because, for each of us, finding love is always a big deal."
