Fall is Brimming with Guest Artist Residencies
Dance Majors in the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance at Wayne State University will have the great opportunity to work with a number of Guest Artists who are slated to be in residence this Fall, creating new dances on WSU dancers, teaching classes, and meeting with students to give career advice.
The list includes Trey McIntyre, director of the Trey McIntyre Project and creator of over 100 dances for such notable companies as New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Stuttgart Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and Pennsylvania Ballet. McIntyre will be at Wayne State from September 2 - 11.
Next will be Thelma Mwan Dido who will be working with the Theatre and Dance Department's To Sangana company that specializes in learning and performing African dance and music. She will be at WSU September 27 - 30.
Stephanie Batten Bland, notable choreographer and current performer in New York City's Sleep No More will reset a performance work of hers on Wayne State's Dance Workshop company, who will perform the work in a special performance in the Great Hall at the Detroit Institute of the Arts on Saturday, October 3rd!
Finally, Brooklyn-based Anna Sperber, a continually active choreographer and teacher, will create a new work on WSU Dance Company One during her residency October 26-29.
Most guest artist residencies for Dance at Wayne State culminate in an "Informance" (informal performance) of the created work on the last day of the residency. These events are open to the public. Check our Event listings for more information about those opportunities to see WSU dancers in performance.
