WSU Senior Dancers Present 'Movement Speak' - A Collection of Choreographic Voices

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance is pleased to present Movement Speak, a choreographic showcase of student dance works by candidates for the degrees of Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science. Movement Speak will be performed Friday, April 5 and Saturday, April 6 at 7:30PM, and Sunday, April 7 at 3PM in the Maggie Allesee Studio Theatre, located in the Old Main Building (3rd Floor, Rm 3317) at 4841 Cass Avenue on the Wayne State University campus.

Featuring new choreography, Movement Speak presents ten performances of outstanding senior capstone works. "TOMORROW WHAT'S IN STORE? TODAY ERASE RESISTANCE," created by Kaitlin Chartrand, is a piece about facing the struggles of everyday life and how to move forward when we have found ourselves trapped and cemented to a specific path. Emily Durand explores the results of receiving unexpected news and how it could alter your life in her piece "Twisted Nerve." The subculture of Steampunk is explored in Megan Drabant's performance theater piece, "Clockwork Universe." Involving a multitude of human beings' senses, "Kinesthesia" (working title) by Tarra Green is a piece based on common assets that are overlooked. Ellisa Marsack creates her third and final work as a BFA dance major, titled "Back Bone," which is derived from the field of psychology and is a culmination of life experiences. Megan Montgomery's work challenges the process of giving and taking, and the explorative beauty in the ultimate surrender of one's self, with an original score by Topher Horn, featuring music by Son Lux. Amber Moore's first undergraduate choreographic work, "The Urge of Force," illustrates various definitions of pressure and explores its release. "I Am NoBody," produced by Jessica Rose, is an exploration into the dark parts of the human mind, a place where many or all have visited but refuse to acknowledge. David Sherban presents a Dance for the Camera piece titled "Masc," which explores and evaluates the characteristics of masculinity through poetry and dance with his all male cast. Lauren Smith presents her first work inspired by emotional and personally written art to create movement from text.

General admission for Movement Speak is $12 and $6 for students and seniors advance purchase; $15 for all ages at the door.
