2014-15 Maggie Allesee Artist in Residence: Doug Varone

This year's Allesee Choreographer in Residence is Doug Varone. Mr. Varone, known for his dynamic movement style and his modern dance and opera choreography, directs Doug Varone and Dancers in New York City.

The residency will be from September 25 to October 5, during which time dance majors in the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance will have the opportunity to be in a Varone work and take technique classes in the Varone movement style. Long-time Doug Varone and Dancers company member Eddie Taketa, a recipient of a 1998 New York Dance Performance "Bessie" Award for Sustained Achievement, will be staging the choreography.

Join us for an "Informance" of the dance near the conclusion of the residency: October 3, 2014 at 12:15 pm in the Allesee Dance Theatre, Room 3317 in Old Main Building, 4841 Cass Avenue, Detroit, MI.

The Allesee Artist in Residence program brings in master choreographers, performers, and teachers annually to work with dance students at Wayne State University. Recent guests include Dwight Rhoden, Ralph Lemon, Nathan Trice, Julie Bour, Larry Kegwin and Wayne State alumna Sonya Tayeh.
