Apple Award

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, Wayne State University, and the Fisher Theatre on behalf of the Nederlander family presents "The Apple Award" named for Sarah Applebaum Nederlander. The award is presented annually at The Fisher Theatre in Detroit to a nationally recognized theatre professional at a black-tie gala benefit event. Recipients receive $10,000 and a crystal apple signifying the clear vision and care for the performing arts that characterized Sarah Applebaum Nederlander. Previous award recipients include: Natasha Katz, Elaine Stritch, Neil Simon, Carol Channing, Stephen Schwartz, Mandy Patinkin, Patti Lupone, Marvin Hamlisch, Phylicia Rashad

BFA Dance Capstone

Join BFA Dance company members in our their annual showcase. BFA Dance company members perform original choreography to various styles of music in a cumulative demonstration of their craft.


Convocation

Each May we gather at the Hilberry Theatre to celebrate graduates of the Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance. View and interact with portfolio displays from our BFA Dance, BFA/MFA Design and Technical Theatre, BA/MFA Stage & Theatre Management graduates.

Allesee Dance Theatre

In collaboration with Artistic Director, Lisa Rose LaMarre Wilmot, the Company One dancers have developed a unique 50min show centered around ideas and stories from intergenerational exchanges. Through movement, spoken word, and the creative process the dancers will engage you in an experience to remember. Come ready to see, think, and wonder. The show is for families and community members of all ages.


Theatre Showcase

Join BFA and MFA company members in our annual Showcase. Company members perform monologues and songs from classic and contemporary works in a cumulative demonstration of their craft.


Community Dance Day

Join Company One Dancers in the human experience of dance. Build new relationships and develop essential mind-body awareness in a fun-filled environment. The day will be composed of a variety of dance classes ranging in styles from ballet to belly dancing. Your RSVP is not required but is strongly encouraged as these classes fill quickly.
